System 7 Today recommends using Musashi as your e-mail client. However, if you're on a seriously underpowered System 7 Mac like the Mac SE, you simply can't.
This is where POPmail II comes to the rescue. It's a bare-bones black & white e-mail client for POP mail with beautiful 1bit icons that gets that e-mail retrieved. Use it in conjunction with the our SSL tunnel for old Macs.
Be aware though that one of POPmail II's shortcomings are hardcoded ports (e.g. 110 for POP3), so if you use custom ports, this might not work.
