The expansion of the System 7 Today universe continues :-)

Today we've launched our Goodies page. To be found in the bottom navigation bar. Some sections are still a bit underpopulated but that'll change in the near future.

Like stated elsewhere before, the aim is to offer a comprehensive collection of quality stuff to help you turn your System 7 Mac into a true personal computer!

Please let Knezzen or me know if you should find something you think that has to be added. (or you created something you'd like to share with the world)

And we keep expanding it! :-)

Today we've added the official System 7 Today Start-up screen. Enhance your boot process!

Here's a photo I took from my 8600 while booting with the new S7T Startup screen:

Want it too? Grab it from here.

(I should mention the Startup screen was entirely produced on my 8600 with Photoshop 5.5. Not bad for an "obsolete system you can't do anything with anymore", huh?)

Do you refer to the title that gets displayed when hovering over hyperlinks? Yeah, you're welcome :-)

Another "goodie" added - S7T exclusive wallpaper for happy Power Mac 5500 owners. Here's a preview Enjoy :-)

Grab it from our wallpapers section

Aother update adding two Desk Accessoires to our Goodies section! Both oldies but goldies this time. I've been using them for years now on various systems.

Conversation does exactly what the name promises, it's a simple I/O tool that converts a lot of measurements like length, weight, temperature, fractions/decimal, hex/octal/binary and more. Put it into your Apple Menu and you'll have no need to google for Fahrenheit / Celsius or hex converters anymore :-)

I have yet to locate version 2.0 and see if that one ever came out, it was supposed to be a System 7 native application.

ASCII Chart isn't unique, but I always liked it for its compatibility across all System 7 versions and its small footprint. Basically it displays all characters in a font in a window plus the character’s ordinal value and how to generate it. Basically, an improved KeyCaps. Great to look up key combos for certain special characters.

Both are a free download (free as in free beer!) over on our Desk Accessoires section! :-)

As always, open to suggestions. What are your favorite DAs that we should add? :)

Hmmm... I always enjoyed FlashWrite ][, a real DA from the System 6 days, but it was built with System 7 compatibility, IIRC. It's a relatively stable Notepad replacement, pretty much a mini-teachtext with font typeface, size and text-formatting capabilities.

I would just create backups of the data file in the system folder as it grows in size, just in case of data corruption.

That's a good suggestion, cballero. I remember reading about it and I'll definitely download and put it to a test. Might come useful whenever you have chunks of text that you want to copy to somewhere save. Like forums posts :-)

Hahaha, yeah, exactly! :D

And for me, sometimes you don't need a full-fledged word processor like Word for quick notes, forum posts like you suggested or any random 'flash' inspiration, idea or a to-do list. I can assure you that once you start using it, soon you'll find it indispensable, hence my second suggestion of routinely backing up its data file.

I have to admin (rather sheepishly) that I only recently discovered the Notepad.  For a while, I had SoundJam setup on my Powerbook to listen to internet radio stations.  I used Notepad to jot down song titles that I wanted to go find later.  It's small, versatile, simple and uses very little RAM.  I'd love to try Flashwrite - will have to take a look.

Three new startup screens (1984, Eclipse, Power) now inhabit our Goodies section :)

Why not seize the opportunity to personalize yours?
